My CDROM looks and works ok within "My Computer, but when I switch on pc, bios report 'atapi incompatible', press F1. on pressing F1 workstation boots up normally including my CDROM. Has anyone any answers to this problem.

okay... without more information on your hardware, the solitary thing I can feel is that your trying to use an EIDE device on an IDE controller. Check your motherboards compatability with your cd-rom.
Update your ASPI drivers.
