i get an asus dvd writer. there's an icon "update asus firmware" (wha'ts firmare anyway?)
but after i choose a device, near a comment:
"there is no firmware in this device"
what does it penny-pinching?
please advice.

Firmware is defined as:
the computer program within a read-only memory (ROM) integrated circuit (a hardware part number or other configuration identifier is usually used to represent the software);
the erasable programmable read-only memory (EPROM) chip, whose program may be modified by special external hardware, but not by [a broad purpose] application program.
Click on this link to see the available updates for your DVD RW. You didn't roll the model so you will need to choose it from the download page. A rom update would a short time ago be a change that they made next to the internal software of the DVD RW.
