Are SATA not easy drives more prone to breakdown than IDE drives?

Also, what is a biddable fanless external enclosure (similar to Lacie aluminium ones) for a Seagate 400gb/750gb?

No, they are not. If you stipulation an enclosure. Try Newegg, Tiger Direct or CDW (I recommend Newegg). As i'm sure you are aware, when in attendance is a problem with something most populace post online about it, so problems seem to be much bigger than they really are.
SATA vs PATA? In most cases, the only difference is the PCB (controller card) on the drive. So, unless near is a problem with one of the chips on the PCB, nearby really shouldn't be any difference in stability.

Enclosures? I find that Macally work best. They tend to be a bit more expensive, but what is $10 when you contemplate about it? The set aside, Firewire 400/800, USB 2.0 and a combined version as resourcefully as a SATA version.
