My computer have an ide harddrive within it when it came. If i purchased an SATA tricky drive, would it be compatible with the computer ? dimension 4600c
Are SATA Hard Drives compatible beside IDE motherboards?
It depends, you can't connect a SATA and IDE intricate drive to the same cable, they use completely different connectors and you can't convert between the two, but your motherboard might support both IDE and SATA, mine does. If not though next you're screwed.
ETA: I've had a express look at the specs for your machine and it doesn't mention anything more or less SATA support, plus it looks a bit old to button SATA anyway so I suspect you've out of luck here dude.
If you have a motherboard that doesn't support IDE drives you can achieve a PCI cards that do and just plug it into a PCI slot.

Also you can seize a card that goes into a PCI slot, such as

However, document you will need power convertors for teh connector used by SATA drives, it is different than the power connector for IDE drives.
You can take them at a computer store, the adapters are cheap.
